Mississippi Highway Patrol Reports Seven Fatalities Over Labor Day Weekend

The Mississippi Highway Patrol finished off its annual enforcement period during the Labor Day weekend, which spanned from midnight on Friday to midnight on Monday.

During this period, the MHP issued 9,426 citations, which included 184 DUI arrests and 519 seatbelt citations.

121 motor vehicle wrecks occurred as well over the weekend leading to seven deaths and 47 injuries.

Colonel Randy Ginn, Director of the Highway Patrol, issued a statement on the matter.

We are disappointed in the increase of fatalities during this Labor Day period compared to the 2019 period. These statistics reminds us that we have to continue to educate the public on how speeding, not wearing seatbelts, and impaired & distracted driving play a huge role in traffic fatalities.”
