Pair of Mississippi doctors being sued for Medicare fraud totaling nearly $250k

A pair of doctors are being sued for Medicare fraud.

The federal government is making allegations that they submitted nearly $250,000 in fraudulent claims to Medicare and are asking for a jury trial to recoup the money.

One of the cases is against Dr. Christopher Cummins and was filed in federal court in Lafayette County.

Cummins was the physician and owner of Magnolia State Family Medicine in Ripley.

The other case is against Dr. George Hammitt, who runs the Pain Management Center in Tupelo.

The pair are accused of purchasing a generic drug from a compounding MidSouth compounder and billing Medicare for the name brand drug.

The pair is accused of nearly $250,000 in fraudulent billing.
